Step Into Leadership
Why We Need New Leaders
Your voice matters. Your experience matters. Your community needs people who care enough to make a difference. Whether you want to get involved or explore running for office, we’ll help you understand your options and take it one step at a time.
Louisiana thrives when women and young residents help shape our future laws
Your Path to Public Service
Right now, many voices are missing from our government. We need women, young professionals, and everyday neighbors to bring fresh energy to our parishes. Leadership isn’t about a fancy degree; it is about caring for your community and being willing to listen to the people who live and work right beside you.
Become a local candidate
1) Explore local offices – Learn about positions such as city or town council, school board, and parish government. Consider which responsibilities connect with the changes you want to make.
You don’t have to figure out everything at once. Start with your community, explore where you can serve, and follow these steps toward becoming a candidate.
2) Check your eligibility – Review the qualifications for your chosen office, including age, residency, voter registration, and any additional requirements.
3) Confirm dates and filing requirements – Find the qualifying period, required documents, fees or petition options, and the correct office where you must file.
4) Prepare to become a candidate – Use the official instructions and forms, and contact your parish Clerk of Court with questions about qualifying for local office.
5) Listen and build your team – Talk with neighbors about their needs, develop your priorities, and invite people to help you organize, communicate, and serve.
